Welcome to Paper Lake. By placing an order or using our website (paperlake.com.au), you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. About Us

Paper Lake is an Australian small business that creates custom children’s storybooks. We are based in Sydney, Australia. When we say “we”, “us”, or “Paper Lake”, we mean our business. When we say “you”, we mean you, the customer.

2. Our Products

Paper Lake creates one-of-a-kind children’s storybooks. Each book is custom-made using the information and photos you provide. Every word is written from scratch and every illustration is created specifically for your order. No two books are the same.

Our current products and pricing (in AUD) are:

• Paperback — $69
• Hardcover — $89
• Gift Edition — $119

Prices may change at any time. The price displayed at the time you place your order is the price you pay.

3. Placing an Order

To create a book, you provide information about the child (name, age, interests) and upload a photo. You choose an art style and story theme. We generate a cover preview for your approval before you complete payment.

By placing an order, you confirm that you have the right to use any photos you upload and that you have the consent of the child’s parent or legal guardian (if that is not you) to create this product.

No account is required to place an order. We process orders as guest checkouts.

4. Payment

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We accept major credit and debit cards. All prices are in Australian Dollars (AUD) and include GST where applicable.

Paper Lake does not store your credit card details. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe in accordance with PCI DSS standards.

5. Production and Delivery

Once your order is confirmed, your book is created and printed. Standard delivery across Australia takes 5-6 business days, including production and shipping. Gift Edition orders include express shipping.

We currently ship within Australia only. We will notify you by email when your order has been dispatched.

6. Custom Products — No Refunds

Because every book is a one-of-a-kind custom product made to your specifications, we do not offer refunds. This is consistent with Australian Consumer Law provisions regarding custom-made goods.

However, we stand behind our quality. If there is a problem with your book — wrong character, art errors, printing defects, or anything that isn’t right — we will remake it at no cost to you. This is our “Not happy? We’ll remake it” guarantee.

7. Intellectual Property

The illustrations and story text created for your book are produced by Paper Lake. You receive the physical book and may share images of it personally (for example, on social media). The underlying intellectual property in Paper Lake’s design system, processes, and brand remains ours.

By uploading a photo, you grant Paper Lake permission to use it solely for the purpose of creating your storybook. We do not use your photos for any other purpose. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

8. Your Responsibilities

When using Paper Lake, you agree to:

• Provide accurate information about the child and delivery address
• Only upload photos you have the right to use, with appropriate consent
• Not use our service for any unlawful, harmful, or inappropriate purpose
• Not attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or reproduce our creation process

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law, Paper Lake’s liability to you for any claim arising from or related to our products or services is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant order.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded or limited by law.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page with the date it was last updated. By continuing to use our website or placing an order after changes are posted, you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
