A free letter from Santa, written for them

Made from what they did this year. Australian, printable, ready in under a minute.

I got a letter from Santa as a kid, asking what I wanted. It felt real because I had already sent one. Have them write to Santa first, with the template further down, then type their answers here; the letter appears as you type, ready to print or save as a PDF.

Nothing you type is sent anywhere. It stays in this browser tab and is gone when you close it.

Christmas 2026

Dear Willa,

This morning the elves brought me the names of the children I'm writing to, and I smiled when I saw yours.

You're five now. That's a wonderful age for Christmas.

This year you learnt to ride without training wheels. The elves gave a big cheer when they heard. I know you love the beach. So do some of the elves. I loved hearing how you shared your lunch with a new friend. Kindness is my favourite thing.

Word reached me that you're hoping for a red scooter. Rudolph has asked me to pack the sunscreen this year. That nose catches the sun before anything else on the sleigh.

And a special hello to your brother Leo.

Merry Christmas, Willa.

Your friend,

Santa

P.S. Rudolph says thank you in advance for the carrot.

Is there a letter to Santa template I can print?

Yes, two, free: a draw-and-write version for about ages 3 to 6, and a lined version for 6 and up, both on A4 with a border to colour in. Print them from here or save the PDFs. They ask your child the same things Santa’s reply asks you (what they did this year, something kind, what they’d love), so their answers fill in the letter above. Photograph their letter before it’s sealed: you keep their words, and the wish list is on your phone at the shops.

How do I send a letter to Santa in Australia?

Through Australia Post’s Santa Mail, which returns on 11 November 2026; how it will work this year isn’t published yet (checked 1 October 2026). In 2025 it worked like this: hand the letter in at a participating Post Office between 3 November and 24 December, no stamp, no return address, and Santa’s reply came straight back over the counter, with a Pip the Koala ornament while stock lasted.

The older method, posting to North Pole 9999 with a stamp and a return address, still appears on plenty of pages; Australia Post replaced it with the counter hand-in in 2024. One reader on a parenting site said replies to people they knew arrived in January or not at all. Check Australia Post’s Santa Mail page for this year’s dates before you go.

How to make it feel real

Let it turn up.

In the letterbox, beside the empty glass and the carrot tops on Christmas morning, or folded in with the Santa Mail reply.

Printed beats handwritten.

Kids know your handwriting. A printed letter from the North Pole needs no explaining.

Their letter first.

They write to Santa, then the reply names their year.

Questions

Does Australia Post reply to Santa letters?

In 2025, yes, on the spot: hand the letter in at a participating Post Office between 3 November and 24 December and Santa's reply came back over the counter. Santa Mail returns on 11 November 2026; check Australia Post's page for this year's dates (checked 1 October 2026).

How can my child call Santa for free?

In 2025, Telstra payphones called Santa free on #HOHOHO (#464646), from 13 November to 24 December. The 2026 dates weren't announced when we checked (1 October 2026).

Do you keep my child's details?

No. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. It stays in this browser tab and is gone when you close it. The PDF is created on your device too.

Is it really free?

Free, no catch, no email, and the letter is not a Paperlake product; the book above is what we sell. I want every child to have a magical Christmas.

Can I change the words?

Yes. Press "Edit the words" and rewrite any part; printing and the PDF use your version.

Can I print it on A4 at home?

Yes, the letter and both templates are laid out for A4. The Save as PDF button gives you a file to print anywhere.
