What Dinkleboo does well
Price. Books start at A$33.99, which makes Dinkleboo the lowest-cost brand we compare, and good for party gifts, classroom gifts or a set for several children. You can preview the full story before you buy.
It sells more than books, including night lights, backpacks and dinner sets. It says its books are printed and shipped in Australia; it dispatches from New South Wales in 1 to 3 business days, then tracked post takes 5 to 7. Buyers rate it 4.6 on Trustpilot from 66,925 reviews (checked September 2026).
Where Dinkleboo falls short
The personalisation is an avatar and a name. You build a cartoon avatar (it says it doesn’t use real photos) and it goes into a set story, so every child who gets that title gets the same story and the same scenes.
For the price that is fair. But if you want a book that feels written for them, a template will feel thin.
What Paperlake does differently
You tell us about the child: who they are, the people and pets around them, a real day you want kept. We write their story, and every picture is made from their photo. A person checks every page before it prints.
3 people are included and up to 6 fit in one book, $15 each from the fourth. You read the whole story and see the cover and the first two pages before you pay. The Hardcover is $99 and the Keepsake, which adds a 6-photo album and an online copy of the book, is $119, both delivered with GST included. Printed in Australia or New Zealand.
Where Paperlake falls short
It costs much more: $99 delivered, against Dinkleboo’s from A$33.99. It takes longer too: up to 3 days to make, then up to 10 business days in the post.

The bottom line
Dinkleboo is a good low-cost gift: the price is right, dispatch is quick and children enjoy seeing their name in a book.
For a main gift that is theirs alone, a story written about them with every picture made from their photo, Paperlake is worth the extra. It costs more because it is made for one child.
